IT ALL STARTS WITH FAMILY

I started cooking at a young age. Later, as a wife and mom to three little ones, my skills expanded. So did my ability to stretch meals. Leftovers were golden, and I got savvy about using up everything in the fridge. I also realized the value of family meals. Our family was busy, just like yours. Mealtime gave us a chance to connect. Gathering at the table brings families together and keeps them close.

The same principles apply to friends, the ones who are so dear that they feel like family. Like my mom, feeding both family and friends is one of the ways I show love. I would never have imagined her legacy would lead me to start my blog, Reluctant Entertainer, dedicated to making hospitality a household word and encouraging people to feast on life. To solve the problem of a flimsy, soggy Sloppy Joe, I sought out a binding ingredient, and the solution was clear: add copious amounts of cheese. Another quick tip is to buy your favorite coleslaw and layer it on your sandwich to add a cool crunchy bite to your meaty, cheesy, slider. Don’t forget the pickles!

They’re not often eaten with ice cream, but after you try this board, you’ll be wondering why you haven’t eaten a donut sundae sooner. To prepare ahead of time, scoop and freeze the ice cream and donuts together on a parchment-lined baking sheet—the donuts will take on a firmer texture, but still taste just as delicious.
