As the world continues to turn the tide over the coronavirus pandemic, millions of people are advised to stay at home for the time being in order to help slow down the spread of the virus. There is, after all, still no vaccine for COVID-19, and practicing social distancing and self-isolation is easily one of the best preventive measures we have now, in addition to washing our hands with soap and water.
But being at home for an extended period of time can be uncomfortable or even depressing, especially for people who are not with their families. As such, people are trying to stay positive in different ways, such as binge-watching their favorite shows, playing their favorite video games or even just catching up on that enormous book backlog.
If that’s not your style, then you may consider joining a free class offered by Yale that teaches you all about finding more happiness.
Online and free for everyone, the class is taught by Dr. Laurie Santos, a professor of psychology at Yale University .
“It’s sort of interesting that a quarter of Yale students want to take a class on happiness rather than economics, machine learning or computer science. The press attention we got for the class back in 2018 made me realize that it’s not just Yale students who need this. This would be great content to share with everyone who wants to be happier and flourish a little more,” she said over the phone in an interview.
Because of this, she put out a shorter version of the class called The Science of Well-Being that can be completed via online platform Coursera for free back in 2018.
“A lot of people have been looking for things to do to feel better in this current crisis. Especially people who are home and have a little more free time on their hands are looking for things to do that are productive,” she added.
Per the course description provided on Coursera, the free course aims to engage students in a series of challenges that are all designed to help increase personal happiness, as well as build productive habits.
